Dundee Road, Stoke-on-Trent ST1 4BS
We hope you have all had a wonderful and exciting summer break and that you are all ready to begin the new academic term.
This half term we will be focusing on life in the Middle Ages. Our Learning Challenge is, ‘Would you have survived Medieval England?’ We will be developing an understanding of the code of chivalry, how life was different for the rich and the poor, who were the princes in the tower and what happened to them, was Richard III really evil and how did the War of the Roses end?
During our English lessons we will be learning how to write non-chronological reports and explanation texts. We will be focusing on the structure of each of these genres and their language features. We will base some of our writing around what we have learnt in the learning challenge curriculum. This will provide children with the opportunity to engage in the topic further and apply their skills in a cross curricular way.
This term we will be learning about place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be learning about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.
In PE this half term Year 5 will be going swimming on Tuesday afternoons. Year 5/6 and Year 6 will be taking part in invasion games every Friday afternoon.
Reading and homework:
As always please ensure that your child is reading at home every night with an adult. Children also have access to Bug Club at home where they can access further books appropriate to their ability.
All children will continue to receive weekly maths, spelling and grammar homework which they can access on Education City. It is very important that your child completes all their homework as this is a consolidation of the week’s work. They will also have ‘points’ homework connected to our Learning Challenge topic.
Please feel free to contact the office to arrange a meeting or call if you have any concerns or queries.
