Dundee Road, Stoke-on-Trent ST1 4BS
We hope you have all had a wonderful and exciting summer break and that you are all ready to begin the new academic term.
This half term we will be focusing on life during World War II. Our Learning Challenge is, ‘Why did World War II last for six years?’ We will start by looking at how World War I ended and the how the events at the end of the Great War led to the start of World War II. We will be developing an understanding of why World War II started, the part Hitler played, why the Jewish people suffered as a result of Hitler coming to power, what happened in Munich in 1938, what was the Battle of Britain and why it was so significant, who was Winston Churchill and what part he played in World War II and who was Reginald Mitchell and how he helped Britain and the allies win World War II.
During our English lessons, we will be learning how to write poetry, informal letters and diaries. We will be focusing on the structure of each of these genres and their language features. We will base some of our writing around what we have learnt in the Learning Challenge Curriculum. This will provide children with the opportunity to engage in the topic further and apply their skills in a cross curricular way.
This term we will be learning about place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be learning about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.
In PE this half term, Year 5 will be developing their invasion skills across multiple sports. Y6 will be focusing on netball and developing their passing skills, shooting skills and positional awareness.
Reading and homework:
As always, please ensure that your child is reading at home every night with an adult. Children also have access to Bug Club at home where they can access further books appropriate to their ability.
All children will continue to receive weekly maths, spelling and grammar homework. It is very important that your child complete all their homework, as this is a consolidation of the week’s work.
Please feel free to contact the office to arrange a meeting or call if you have any concerns or queries.
