At Etruscan Primary School, we aim to inspire creativity and help children develop the skills and confidence to express themselves through art. Children learn to explore ideas, experiment with materials and techniques, discuss and evaluate artwork, and learn about artists and craftspeople from different times and cultures.
From EYFS onwards, children have regular opportunities to explore and create using a wide range of materials and techniques. They develop their skills progressively from Year 1 to Year 6, learning about influential artists and designers while developing their own ideas and creative independence.
Children at Etruscan will:
Use appropriate artistic vocabulary to discuss their own and others' work.
Express ideas and emotions creatively.
Create art from observation, memory and imagination.
Explore and use a range of materials, techniques and processes.
Learn about artists, designers and different cultures.
Reflect on and evaluate their own work and the work of others.
Art Across the Curriculum
Art supports learning across the curriculum, including English, mathematics, computing, history, geography, PSHE and cultural education. Children use art to explore ideas, develop communication skills, understand shape and space, use digital technology and learn about different cultures and periods of history.
SMSC and Inclusion
Art encourages children to collaborate, respect others' ideas and appreciate different cultures and perspectives. We set high expectations for every child and provide appropriate challenge and support so that all pupils can develop their creativity and make progress from their individual starting points.
