    Science Curriculum Aim

At Etruscan Primary our science curriculum aims to inspire curious, confident and resilient thinkers who explore and question the world around them through purposeful, practical and inclusive experiences. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils develop secure scientific knowledge, vocabulary and working scientifically skills, applying these through enquiry, investigation, collaboration and real-world contexts. We nurture children’s natural curiosity, encouraging them to think, explore, question and communicate like scientists while developing the confidence to investigate independently, solve problems and explain their understanding. By celebrating diverse scientists, careers and applications of science, we raise science capital and inspire pupils to recognise how science shapes our world and can help them contribute to its future.

At Etruscan, we nurture the natural curiosity of every individual through engaging children in practical experiences where they develop both the skills required to work as a scientist (disciplinary knowledge) and scientific knowledge (substantive knowledge) to share ideas and ask questions to answer the many ‘wonders’ they may have. In EYFS, science is an integral part of the topic work covered during the year. Understanding the World ensures children develop early scientific ideas and processes through hands on activities, practical exploration and outdoor experiences. In Key Stage 3, children will develop a deeper understanding of a range of scientific ideas in the subject disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
